Kerckoffs' principle

For various reasons, Kerckhoff’s Principle has come up over the horizon again. Fascinating that he posed the principle in the 19th Century. Wikipedia states the principle as,

A cryptosystem should be secure even if everything about the system, except the key, is public knowledge.
